After acquiring Five Mobility and Herida Medical in 2024, Winncare is consolidating its presence in the United Kingdom. The Île-de-France-based medical device designer and manufacturer is acquiring Montcalm International, which distributes and leases medical beds to hospitals within the British National Health Service (NHS). Backed by majority fund Siparex ETI V since 2021 and by Kartesia, which took a minority stake earlier this year, Winncare is purchasing 100% of the shares from founders and managing directors Christopher and Tomoko Sakabe-Stacey using its own funds. The sellers will support the transition for a short period before handing over the reins to Simon Claridge, who heads Winncare’s operations in the United Kingdom. In addition, Winncare has appointed Florence Kocher as Director of M&A and Strategic Projects to oversee all aspects of its development: buy & build strategy, management strengthening, and digital transformation.
Founded in 2004, Montcalm International primarily serves hospitals and hospices — a customer base largely absent from Winncare’s portfolio, which focuses on the home care market and specialist facilities such as nursing homes. The five-employee SME also brings £2.6 million, or €3.1 million, in additional revenue. “The acquisition of Montcalm International enables Winncare to enhance its offering with a new range of premium bariatric beds (specialist medical beds designed for overweight patients) and to generate strong synergies with its subsidiary Five Mobility, which is already positioned in the bariatric bed rental segment — a rapidly growing market. Montcalm International’s exclusive partnership in the United Kingdom with Umano Medical, a leading Canadian player, also opens up new development opportunities and could ultimately serve as a privileged gateway for Winncare into the North American market,” said François Bracchi, ETI Fund Director at Siparex. Also founded in 2004, the Île-de-France-based mid-sized company, chaired by Laurent Faugère since 2022, has more than doubled its revenue in four years, growing from €75 million in 2022 to €160 million on a pro forma basis, with EBITDA of between €25 and €30 million. With a workforce of 900 employees and half of its revenue generated internationally, the company operates 12 production sites and five commercial subsidiaries in France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Denmark, and Poland.
